Virtual Private Networks

Knowall offers Virtual private Networks (VPN) Solutions which allow your organisation to make use of the Internet to give remote users and other offices access to your network at minimum cost and disruption to business.

What is a VPN?

A VPN uses a public network such as the Internet or the public telephone system as part of the path from point A to point B. This differs from a truly private network where you own the wires all the way from A to B. The VPN builds a "tunnel" through the public system for your private data traffic and ensures its security.

Using a VPN will not disrupt your other Internet activities, such as web browsing or email. VPN connections can be established from remote sites that have VPN Server/client software with Internet connections, preferably high-speed, to a central location which has a permanent internet connection via leased line or DSL.

What are the costs involved?

Cost effective
Connection is usually based on inexpensive local call ISDN or telephone connections for remote users, or a Broadband/DSL line using the Internet as the main communications link and so offers huge savings by eliminating the need for private lines between A and B.

Knowall can offer your company a bespoke VPN package, call one of our sales advisors for further information and pricing by phoning 0870 225 0377 or emailing sales@knowall.net

What are the benefits?

Cost effective
Connection is usually based on inexpensive local call ISDN or telephone connections for remote users using the Internet as the main communications link and so offers huge savings by eliminating the need for private lines between A and B.

Minimum disruption to business
Existing Internet connections can be used to establish totally secured VPN's. There is no need for cabling installation engineers, who could disrupt your business, and other Internet activities, such as web browsing and email, can continue as normal

Security
In conjunction with Firewall Technology, VPN can offer total security for the network as well as data traveling across the Internet between networks.

How does it work?

The VPN system encrypts data going from an office to a remote user or another office and sends it through the Internet decrypting it on arrival at its destination. The same thing happens when data is sent from a remote user or another office to the original office. The encryption means that the data can pass through the public network without being accessible to the public. See the diagram below for an illustration of how the VPN system works.
