A brute force attack is the most common WordPress attack. It’s the equivalent of someone trying every key on a key ring until they pick the correct key. Hackers will run scripts trying multiple combinations of usernames and passwords until they gain access to your site.
Once they have access to your site they can start running malicious scripts and causing a number of issues such as – Redirecting users to spam sites, deleting your data, injecting spam links etc.
Not only will this cause havoc to anyone trying to use the site. But once Google finds out your site has been hacked they will issue a warning to users and could blacklist your site from its indexing causing additional headaches down the road. Overall this is bad for business.
But don’t worry – there is an effective way of protecting your site. And that’s in the form of a Brute Force Attack security plugin. These plugins work by limiting the number of attempts anyone can try login. So if an attacker tries to login multiple times – the system will automatically block their IP from accessing the site.
Having Brute Force Attack protection is vital nowadays. If you don’t have protection in place your site is more than likely being attacked at this very minute and it’s only a matter of time until they gain access.
